Toledo Community Rehabilitation Partner Meeting

Yesterday, we met with a lot of the counselors from the northwest area of the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Comission. We appreciate all the feedback that we received and all the time that we were given to share some great information.

At this meeting, we shared a bulk of information. We started off with some statistics for the 1st Financial Quarter for the northwest area, and then broke down into some more specific information regarding our services. We talked about vocational evaluations, benefits analysis, and our computer training services.

If you are interested in any of the files, here they are all.

Education Report

Recently, Belinda Bockrath, Southern Area Manager, and I were interviewed on the Education Report with Gary Honert on a few radio stations near Dayton, OH.

Luckily, Justin Draper, the new Driver’s Education Manager at Capabilities, has a knack for doing some video editing. He kindly put together the audio from the event into some great videos. Here they are for your viewing pleasure.

Service of the Month: Job Club

Job Club?  What’s a Job Club?

The Job Club is not a new concept but the Capabilities Job Club is a unique, cost effective service  to get the most up to date and relevant job search information. The club members meet weekly for one hour and can conclude when the individual member has obtained a job or when they feel they have obtained all the necessary skills to job search on their own.

Some topics include:

  • Self-Presentation
  • Resume
  • Pocket Resumes
  • References
  • Cover Letters
  • Identifying Job Leads
  • Filling Out Paper Applications
  • Filling Out Computer Applications
  • Interviewing
  • Mock Interviews (Both Over the Phone and In Person)
  • Resume Reviews
  • Taped Interview Critique
  • Interview Day
  • Reasonable Accommodations
  • Thank You Notes and Letters
  • Contacting Employers By Phone
  • Transportation– how to problem solve
  • Networking (Both on Computers and In Person)
  • Using the One Stop
  • Using the Internet
  • Using the Newspaper (not just the classifieds)

Each week concludes with sharing of job search tips, reviewing how to overcome job search frustration, and sharing of job leads.

When Would  a Job Club Be a Good Fit?

The job club can be a great solution for someone who does not need intensive one on one job search help. The job club includes job seeking skills building, job development tips and oversight, and peer support. If your consumer needs to get ‘tuned up’ to find a job, this will help motivate and excite them. If your consumer needs to get into a better daily job search routine, job club can provide the needed structure.

The job club is not only a quality rehabilitation piece but it is also an economical fit. The price of the job club is much less than traditional hourly job development and/or job seeking skills training. You get a lot more bang for your buck by going with this service for consumers who benefit from group experiences and learning!

OK, So What’s The Price?

The job club service is listed on our full fee schedule, and is$75.00 per month.

Comparing this to one hour of job development for each for the entire month would be $240.00.

For job seeking skills training for one hour for the entire month, this would cost $228.00

Final Details

Once again, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas for this service, please contact us at info@capabilitiesinc.biz.

Capabilities prides itself on customizing our services to what will work best for our consumers, so please ask us to see how we can do this for you!

Example of Resume Website

At Capabilities, we make resumes for all of our consumers when we work with them for job placement.  Another interesting project we have gotten into is making a websites for our consumers that is basically their online resume.

Here is an example of one that we have created for Amy Kraft: http://amykraft.wordpress.com/.

Amy is a medical transcriptionist that is currently looking for employment.  If you would like to hire or contact her, just visit her handy site, and you can get a hold of her!

My favorite portion of what we did for her was that we created a video resume for her.  You can also view this on her webpage, but I’ve included it here:

Amy Kraft’s Resume from Capabilities, Inc. on Vimeo.

If you are a professional trying to get into the field, a resume website can be an extra extension of yourself.  It can differentiate you from other people who are applying, and it just may be the thing you need to help get hired!

If you are interested in getting a resume website set up, please contact us today (Click Here to Find the Contact Information for Capabilities).

New Service: Case Management

At Capabilities, we are always trying to find new programs and services that we can use to help people with disabilities.

Allison Meeks, one of our Vocational Evaluators from Toledo, recently brought it to our attention that she is qualified to do case management.  Allison has a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Bowling Green State University (Go Falcons!).

With Allison’s expertise, Capabilities can now offer Case Management services to MCO’s (Managed Care Organizations) in Ohio.  Allison is able to create customized plans for injured workers to get them back to work as quickly as possible.

To receive Case Management services from Allison and Capabilities, you have to have an open case with the Ohio BWC (Bureau of Worker’s Compensation).

If you would like to receive more information regarding the case management service, please feel free to contact Allison directly.  Here is her contact information:

Summer 2011 Youth Work Experience

Summer is quickly approaching, and that means vacation for most high schoolers! What are they going to do with all their free time? Capabilities’s Summer Youth Work Experience is a great way to get the experience that employers will be looking for. We have local businesses who are ready to work with youth to give them a taste of what a post-highschool job will entail. It’s an eight week program that includes orientation and training as well as a full four weeks working in the field.
